FAQs & Manuals
Welcome to the BWE – BreedWorks Creation Community!
Please take the time to read this entire manual before rezzing your horses or ponies in world. The BWE horse and pony is one of the most unique breedables available in SL at this time, and BWE wants you to enjoy every facet of these incredible animals.
You are about to enter the exciting world of BWE – BreedWorksHQ, the most interactive horses and ponies in Second Life. BWE is a fully integrated web-based company serving the virtual reality of Second Life. All the information is at your fingertips within the website. It is your absolute source for information that you can refer to when breeding these “believable” horses.
The BWE website offers registration for your horses to enter events and auctions. You can find all the rules and regulations, view the online calendar for events and classes, and communicate with the staff 24/7. Also please visit our main store to register for a food/MyBWE account. While you are there you can make any necessary food purchases and one of our helpful VSR staff will be on duty to answer any questions for you.
::OVERVIEW::
These, like real-life horses, must be fed and cared for or they will become sick and eventually die.
The BWE store carries all the various food, consumable, and medical supplies, including a resurrection orb, this can be used to bring back a horse or pony that dies from lack of food.
BWE foals are born live and they must be with their mothers for nourishment during their first three days (ages 0-2). At age three (3) they begin to eat on their own. Between the age of seven (7) and ninety your they are eligible to race, if they haven’t been bred.
BWE horses can be trained. There are events they can participate in. Take a tour of your menu, testing out all the features available for further enjoyment of your new horses and ponies.
::GENERAL::
Food & Consumables
You must register for an account with BWE to gain access to MyBWE, the quest system and any vendors located inside our main store or BWE satellite shops.
Simply right click and buy the item that you want. Once you have accepted your purchase, you will automatically receive your Quest credits for your purchase(s). If you should make a Second Life Marketplace purchase of your items, you must rez the box out in-world to have the credit added to your account.
When you receive your purchase, you will have a box in your inventory that contains “shells” of the item you bought. These “shells” are the delivery system to feed/care for your horses and ponies using the products that you have bought and have credit for on our website. The total amount of food that you purchased will be credited to your online account. As your horses and ponies use these items, the count will go down. However, if you keep your account full, you will never need to replace the “shell” for Hay, Alfalfa, Salt and Feed. If you run out of a particular food type, the shell will deactivate and the hover text will turn red.
Our consumables will work the same way that they always have. Once the consumable is used its “shell” will disappear. However, as with the food, you will be able to see your remaining amount of consumables on the website or in world Consumable Status monitor. When you have used your last consumable, the shell will disappear, any remaining shells you rez in world will deactivate with a note in red hover text to let you know that you have run out of that consumable in your account.
You will always receive an equal number of shells to the amount that you have purchased. If you find that you have lost shells and need a replacement, there is a shell vendor located in the main store.
You can always check the amount of food/consumables in your account by visiting MyBWE or by purchasing the in-world “Consumable Status” item in our store. It will update your account totals every 30 minutes or when you click on the item.
Salt Licks are needed for happiness and should always be available to your horses and ponies.
Life Cycle
Horse and pony life cycle is 0 to 140 days. At 141 days the horse or pony will become a pet that can still be ridden & renamed but no longer requires food and cannot be bred. The exception is starters which will at age 141, automatically change to a deactivated horse or pony and give you 140 cloud ranch points.
Mating (The following is required for mating to occur)
100% Passion for male and female
75% Hunger or above for male and female
75% Happy or above for male and female
Male and female must be within set range to mate (set in menu by the Owner).
Once mated they will stay mated until you separate the mating through the menu, or pregnancy occurs. When the female becomes pregnant both male and female passion will be 0%. She will be pregnant for three days; he will begin to gain passion. Their mated bond will break.
Recovery Time from Birth
Females will take three (3) days to recover from birthing, during this time she will be feeding her baby. If she should have a Mule or the foal is Cloud Ranched, she will still have to go through the 3-day recovery period.
Sickness
When your horse or pony “Full” reaches 0% you have forty-eight (48) hours to use a Med Kit before death occurs.
Resurrection
Resurrection brings back a dead horse or pony and gives fifty (50) % hunger back. No other stats or traits return to previous settings. All settings must be re-set by the Owner. This applies for a dead horse or pony only.
Accessories
It is possible for an BWE horse or pony to have 2 different type of accessory, either it comes with the breed or it’s a purchased “Optional” accessory. A horse or pony may wear multiple accessories, but they may NOT wear any more than 6 prims of accessories.

Question: What are the BreedWorks Horses horse all about?
Answer: There are several things that make BWE horses a bit different than any other breedable in Second Life.
- Market
We are going to do everything in our power to ensure that the value of your horses are maintained for longer than is currently customary in Second Life.
- Breeding
When breeding, you start off with Starter Horses. These starter horses are nothing more than tools. They look like horses but are only tools. Starter Horses will be used to get information from the gene pool (what is available in the gene pool at the time of the breeding). The availability in the gene pool will come and go at the discretion of BWE. If for example there is a certain breed overpopulated, we will be removing that gene from the gene pool making it no longer available to starter horses. Please understand when there is a change in the gene pool, it will not be announced publicly by BWE; it will just happen. The reasoning is that when a new horse is introduced, BWE does not want to adversely affect the pre-existing market.
- Auctions
BWE requires Auction House to report auction results which become a Market Report that is available to the community on the BWE website. The Market Report will include the following information, but not limited to the following:
Breed, traits and sale price of the horses auctioned.
The BWE community will be able to view market trends and utilize that knowledge to grow their business.
- Traits
In other Breedables in Second Life, items like fuzzy tails, eyes, coats, collars etc, these BWE will refer to these as “vanity traits”. Examples of BWE vanity traits are face markings, tails, eyes, breeds, manes and coats. You can breed for vanity traits and that’s fantastic. Most other Breedables in Second Life are doing only that.
The racing side of an BWE Horse has Skill Sets. These skill sets are the specific ability that the horse uses in horse competitions. Each skill is trainable and has its own values. Each skill will be determined by the breed of the horse. The Horse skills increase as the owner trains the horse over time. The owner must choose the trait that he/she wants to train.
The horse’s skill will only increase if the owner chooses that skill and trains that specific skill. If the owner neglects or chooses not to train a skill that skill will fall.
You can breed for vanity traits only or for skill sets only, or you can breed for an “Elite Horse” which is best of both worlds.
- You can only race a horse for the first 90 days. Of those 90 days, the first 7 the horse is still growing.
- If you breed this horse anywhere between days 7 – day 90, you cannot race the horse anymore.
The racing events are: Flat Racing (endurance), Thoroughbred, Sulkies, Steeple Chase, Sprint Racing, and Draft Pulls.
- Jockeys and Caretakers
Let’s say you are too busy to race your horse; you can get a friend, family member, or hire a jockey to race your horse for you. There is also a feature called “caretaker” if you are gone on vacation/out of SL etc, you can assign someone to take care of your horse for you, including training it! (Note a caretaker cannot train the ‘Pull’ skill)
Question: How many prims per horse?
Answer: 14 prims – But Land Impact can vary.
Question: How long do my horses live for?
Answer: Your BWE horses have 140 day life span.
Question: What happens when my horse is 140 days old?
Answer: When your horse reaches the end of its active life span, you have a few options. Cloud Ranch for points, just Delete the horse and lastly you can turn your horse into a permanent pet and continue enjoying it.
Question: Can you breed a horse with a pony?
Answer: No, you can only breed a horse with another horse, and a pony with another pony.
Question: Is there a separate food for the Ponies?
Answer: No, ponies use the same food and consumables as horses. No need to buy different food/consumables!
Question: Why are Starter horses 3 days old when delivered?
Answer: The starter horses come out at 3 days old since they have no mother to nurse them.
Question: Are there going to be different starter packs per breed?
Answer: The starter packs will have different breeds, but those are for cosmetic purposes only. It does NOT matter what your starter horse looks like because it will pull anything from the gene pool that is available at that time.
Question: Do starters have traits? How do traits pass over to the foals?
Answer: No, starter horses do not have traits. After a generation, traits can pass to foals.
Question: Why are my horses not looking like the parents, the starter horses?
Answer: Starter horses are just a tool, they are the access point to the gene pool.
Question: Say you come out with a new horse, a pinto. When I bought my starter horse, there weren’t pintos, if my starters are alive, do I have a chance?
Answer: Starter horses have the same 140 day life span as any other horse. Yes, every time a starter horse breeds, you have a chance of getting whatever is available in the gene pool at that time.
Question: Will traits like speed pass down?
Answer: Yes, it’s possible.
Question: I just got my starter packs, how do I set up my horses properly?
Answer: First, you are going to want to set out your food. The Basic Starter packs contain 4 Horses (2 male & 2 female), 2 weeks of hay, and 2 weeks of salt. Setting out your hay and salt before setting out your horses is the ideal thing to do.
Question: Are there going to be bundles?
Answer: No bundles, live births only.
Question: What are the default settings of my horses?
Answer: Motion OFF, Range 50M. Home is set upon rezzing your horses in world. Feed type: Hay. Sounds OFF.
Question: Can I ride these horses?
Answer: Yes, you can! At the age of 7 the BWE horses may be ridden; you and your friends can enjoy the awesome seamless animations that have been custom designed to go along with the riding activities of your horses.
Question: If I turn my horse into a permanent pet, will I need to buy pet food or pay extra to keep it?
Answer: Permanent Pet is FREE to do! There’s no special food to buy or price to pay to keep your BWE horse.
Question: Can I do anything else with my horses then just breed them?
Answer: Yes! BWE horses are designed to be more than just a vanity animal. There are events and activities that they can participate in.
Question: What about naming my horse?
Answer: You must name a horse eligible for the BWE events such as racing or for it to breed. Within those first 7 days you can change the horses name as many times as you need to, after that the name will be locked in. Please keep this in mind when you’re naming your horses.
Question: How do I know that someone else won’t have a horse with the same name as mine?
Answer: The BWE servers will not allow for duplicate names on horses, each name must be unique.
Question: Can the horses die?
Answer: Yes, horses can die from starvation or lifespan of 140 runs out. Horses that are at the end of their lifespan can either be sent to “Cloud Ranch” for points based on horse’s stats, or the horse can be turned into a “Permanent Pet”. The horse will still run and retain the skill traits when they turned 140. A” Permanent Pet” will not require food and will be transferable. You have the option of Cloud Ranching at any time.
Question: If I Cloud Ranch or Delete my horse can I get it back?
Answer: No, if you choose to terminate your horse then resurrection will not work.
Question: What if you lose the horse? If it fails to rezz, or Second Life eats it?
Answer: Please submit a ticket in the BWE ticket system. A lost horse will be re-issued with same stats.
Question: What do I do if my horses aren’t working right?
Answer: If your BWE horses are not working as they should be, please file a support ticket at the BWE website under the support tab. There is a fully detailed support form to fill out, as well try to add the Horses ID numbers and as much detail about what your horse is or is not doing. One of BWE’s Virtual Customer Service Representatives will contact you and assist you with getting issues corrected as fast as possible to get you back to enjoying your BWE Horses.
Question: Can you explain all the menu options?
Answer: For a detailed overview of the horse menu, please select the help option to go to the BWE website with the horse manual, the menus are explained in full detail. We also provide classes in world.
Question: Can you mix food types?
Answer: No, a horse/pony will not be eating different types of food all at once. However, you CAN instantaneously switch from one food to another.

Answer: Yes, that is correct.
- Hay – basic supplemental food keeps Horse/Pony full.
- Alfalfa – Food used for breeding.
- Feed – Food for skill traits training.

MyBWE/Pastures System
We are calling this MyBWE. It’s a revolutionary new way for you to see and interact with your BWE horses and ponies. It’s a web-based system, designed to give you maximum control and flexibility to manage your BWE experience.
Once you register for an account, you will get a new button on your horse/pony menu called Pasture. When you click the Pasture button, you will be able to “send” your horse/pony to 1 of 6 different “Pastures”. After you choose a pasture, your horse/pony will disappear from SL and will be moved to the pasture system. Do not worry, your horse/pony will not feel pain during the transfer – I think they enjoy it! You also do not need to worry about losing your horse/pony from SL. It is simply a button click away from getting it back into SL!
Below, I will explain the two parts of the new and exciting system. The first is the Pasture and the second is the MyBWE web interface.
*Use your existing food account user name and password to log in. If you cannot remember your password, you can find a kiosk at the main store to change it.*
https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/BreedWorksHQ/143/142/23
–Please Note: ALWAYS rez out a horse/pony when you send it from Pastures to Second Life BEFORE you send it to someone else.
So, what are these pastures? As mentioned earlier, there are 6 different pastures available.
1: Basic:
2: Basic Plus:
3: Breeding:
4: Nursing:
5: Racing:
6: Training:
Note: All food or consumables used for pasture are the same as you use in SL, except you don’t need to rez shells or the consumable to use them. The pasture will do that for you! You still need to purchase food and consumables! Also – you will be able to see and manage your horses/ponies in each pasture using the MyBWE web interface that I will describe later.
1: Basic Pasture:
In the Basic pasture, your horse/pony will range freely with minimal care and feeding. He/she will only consume Hay while in this pasture, increasing only Hungry.
2: Basic Plus Pasture:
While in the Basic Plus pasture, your horse/pony will range freely and happily with a little more care and feeding. He/she will consume Hay and Salt while in this pasture. Therefore, it will increase Hungry and Happy.
3: Breeding Pasture:
While in the Breeding pasture, your horse/pony will be provided the proper environment to maximize that passionate state for breeding success. He/she will consume Alfalfa and Salt while in this pasture. Therefore, it will increase Hungry, Happy and Passion.
4: Nursing Pasture:
Nursing pasture is only for new mothers and their babies! In the Nursing pasture, your horse/pony will be provided with a safe and nurturing environment that is just what the doctor ordered for a nursing mother and her tender youth. While in the nursing pasture, the mother will consume the proper amount of Alfalfa to nurse her baby. The baby will receive nourishment from the mother. The mother will increase Hungry and Happy (no salt needed). The baby will only increase Hungry. ** The mother will automatically be moved to the breeding pasture after the baby is no longer nursing and the baby will be automatically moved to Basic pasture. ** When you send a horse/pony to pasture from SL and it is nursing, it will automatically be moved to the nursing pasture, no matter what pasture button you choose in SL!
5: Racing Pasture:
While in the Racing pasture, your horse/pony will be provided the proper environment to develop and maintain the much-needed vim and vigor (AKA Vitality) to meet racing requirements. He/she will not receive training while in this pasture. If you want that, send them to the Training pasture! or send them back to SL and train them yourself! He/she will consume Feed and Salt while in this pasture. Therefore, it will increase Hungry, Happy, and Vitality.
6: Training Pasture:
Training pasture is only for the most serious of racing candidates. They will be trained and pushed to their limits to make them the best they can be! In the Training pasture, your horse/pony will be provided the best environment to develop both the skills and vim and vigor (AKA Vitality) to meet racing requirements and to compete at their best. When using the training pasture, your horse/pony will be automatically trained to the desired level that you set. He/she will consume Feed and Salt while in this pasture. Therefore, it will increase Hungry, Happy, and Vitality. Note: They will eat twice as much Feed and Salt to cover the cost of the training while in this pasture.
So, what new and wonderful things does MyBWE give you?

Question: Saddles are built into the horses?
Answer: Yes western, english and sidesaddle is included. There is a mounting up animation for getting on your horse as well. Racing equipment is also provided in the horse based on race type.
Question: Do the horses skill traits increase with training (i.e. increase speed) and do those skills pass to the next generation?
Answer:
Yes, you can train your horse to make it faster or stronger, but this training does not pass down to its babies.
Here is how it works:
Genes vs. Training: Every horse is born with its own genes. Genes decide the absolute limit of how fast, high, or strong a horse can ever get. Training helps your horse reach that limit, but it does not change its genes. When breeding, only the horse’s starting genes are passed down to the baby.
Keeping up with Training: Trained skills do not last forever. If you do not train your horse or pony regularly, their skills will drop. They will stop running, jumping, or pulling at their best until you train them again.
Question: How do you sign up to be a jockey?
Answer: Jockey’s must be licensed by attending one of BWE’s training classes. More information may be found on the BWE Website in the Racing section. (Official BWE racing only)
Question: After a horse completes a race, is there a period of time before it can race again or can it race the next day?
Answer: There is a 24 hour cool down from one race to another.
**General instructions for training**
* Your Horse must eat Feed to train: Pull, Speed, Stamina, Sprint or Jump.
* Rezz out Feed within range of your horse or pony. Set your horse or pony to eat Feed. Your horse or pony must eat a bite of Feed before training for your skill stats to go up. If you have been training for around 5 minutes and have seen no increase in the skill stats then your horse or pony has not eaten the Feed.
*Turn off and remove any Animation Override’s (AO’s) you are wearing, right-click your horse or pony and choose “Ride” (Do NOT wear from inventory).
* Left click your Horse and choose Training on the menu, then the skill you want to train, your Horse will tell you in local chat:
“Your Horse/Pony Name: This Horse/Pony is now training for stamina”
The hover text will change to orange.
Note: if your horse or pony already has orange text saying its set to train in the skill you want to train, you will need to select it again to activate training.
